I dunno if i believe that. If Dave hadn’t been sentenced then i don’t think any compensation would have been ordered. I’m not 100% on that though. My son got mugged by a random with a knife, took his ring and small amount of money off him. Threatened to slash his throat and he got no compensation
You need to get in touch with citizens advice to point you in the right direction, your son should be entitled to a payout especially if it has had a massive impact on his mental health, I remember you telling us about that.

The only thing i’ve had is a letter from victim support. It just stated they could help with advice on his sentence and updates of when he gets out and things. I’ve not rang them just because i don’t want to keep reminding him of what happened.

Victim support are very helpful also, I would give them a call, just mention yoh we're speaking to somebody and they couldn't understand why your son wasent awarded anything and you are only asking now because of his MH and you would love to afford a little holiday. Yes just looked if the crime was committed in the last two years he will be entitled to criminal injuries just have a little look into it.
