Regarding Sedat’s poor English, I think it’s disgraceful of him to not have learned more English during his time here in the UK and for them both for not teaching Ela more Turkish!!!
As a child of an immigrant, I feel like I’m somewhat qualified to speak on this. To not be able to speak to your own parent without a language barrier must be an awful and lonely feeling for Ela. There is no excuse to not have taught her more Turkish or for him to have learned more English. I know he can speak it but for someone who has been here for at least almost 15 years, it’s s. It’s actually cruel to Ela and I can’t help but feel like Sevda loves it!!
As many of you have said, she’s almost like a single parent and portrays herself as such. I think she loves Ela being dependent on her.
My mum always prioritized to teach me her native tongue and still learned English even though it wasn’t easy for her, because she wanted to give me my best chances!!
They’re both bad parents in that aspect for not making it easier for Ela to communicate with her dad.
