It started coming up on my FYP yesterday and the Labour Party there want to oppose the rewrite as well.In the 184 years since that treaty was made between the Māori people and the English crown it has never been honoured. When it was signed Māori people made up for 98% of New Zealand, as of last year 17% of New Zealand are Māori and the parliament want to rewrite the terms of a treaty that they never honoured anyway. I'm not Māori but people I care about deeply are, that's why I know so much about it
