i'm a planty person too but i can't abide ferns as they aren't happy anywhere in my house... i've followed every bit of advice but it doesn't work for me either. i've got another type of fern and that's happy and thriving but maidenhair ferns are too fussy for my liking.It's not surviving in any of those rooms
edit - blue star fern is the only fern i can keep alive

Erratic watering, ferns like to be moist (but not wet) and needs better light (but not direct sunshine) stick ya finger in the pot, is it damp or dry? Bathrooms and kitchens are best for ferns...and yes I'm a bit of a plant Nerd
