Dogs and cats can get on!!! My first Romanian rescue dog lived on the streets. Then in a shelter with other dogs. I adopted him and had cats at the time and he was fine with them.

Angies cat has never been to the vets shes full of s. She doesn't even know if it's male or female. 
I grew up with both cats and dogs in the house together, and they always got on great.
