Not new to Vav but new to this thread. One thing I want to comment on is how badly she's failing Max. My 17 year old was exactly like Max. He has CP. He was non verbal. He has a sight impairment and has an intellectual disability.
Those early days were hard. I was 20 and out of my depth but I spent every day trying to get him to improve. I hired a play specialist, I paid to have him in a specialist communication nursery. I took him out which yes was hard because he'd have meltdowns but you know what I had to. I didn't have anyone to pawn him off to. He's now 17, relatively independent, talking and in a school that suits his needs.
