RT by @BootstrapCook: When donating to a food bank, many of us may think of giving pasta or tinned food. 🥫

Though this food is appreciated, our food banks are also in need of some more unexpected, but essential items.

Here's six unexpected things you can donate to your local food bank ⤵️

RT by @BootstrapCook: This slight dip is down to:
⛽️falling petrol prices 👕lower clothing costs

BUT food 🥫 continues to spike & families on low incomes spend a greater proportion of their £ on groceries.

➡️ £20 extra per child per wk into child related benefits would give families vital support

RT by @BootstrapCook: Did you know that every time you borrow a book from the library the author, and illustrator if there is one, get 30p? For most paperbacks and many hardbacks that’s almost as much as if you’d bought it at full price. And more than if you’d bought it at discount from you know who.

R to @TonyH1212: Good luck - getting a diagnosis is scary but it helps because then you can get a treatment pathway and the right pain management, there are plenty of options out there once you know what you’re dealing with! Thinking of you, it’s not easy but it helps to be armed with the facts.

I’m seeing v little in news reports about the utterly relentless, horrific, online abuse and harassment that Jacinda Ardern was subjected to every single day of her premiership, the vociferous and explicit threats of violence, the misogyny and the bullying, and I think it matters

R to @BootstrapCook: I was woken this morning by my radio alarm and JAs resignation speech was the first thing I heard, and that ‘nothing left in the tank’ - and the way she /said/ that - I wish I was surprised, but that abuse is so corrosive, so destructive, it grinds you into a husk, in the end.

R to @BootstrapCook: And I’m not saying it’s the definitive reason for her deciding to stand down, nor the only reason, but that feeling of having nothing left of yourself to give when you’ve been reduced to a pile of a and death threats, gaslighting, relentless hounding? It’s a very familiar one.

R to @BootstrapCook: And it’s not just ‘online’ abuse. It’s abuse. It doesn’t just live in the internet, as a neat contained little thing that can be switched off and ‘just don’t look at it’. It seeps into every waking second of the day, every corner of your life, every precious private relationship.

R to @BootstrapCook: If you respond to it, it celebrates and intensifies. If you ignore it, it escalates until you can’t any more. If you block it, it multiplies and breaches your boundaries. And her crime? Pretty much ‘being female in public.’

R to @BootstrapCook: I’ve got a busy day on, but I’ll probably write later. I’ve a rule about if something is more than a 4 tweet thread (and the thread doesn’t expunge the Big Feeling about it) then it should probably be an essay. But journalists: do better. Don’t gloss over this.👇

R to @BootstrapCook: The internet is overrun with men (mostly), hounding & condemning women to death, for daring to be here, showing our faces, raising our voices, in public. We protest this treatment of women in ‘other countries’, but I regret to inform you, the calls are coming from inside our own.

R to @grannymoonboots: I’ve said almost those exact words several times a day lately, that I can’t do this any more and that I’ve got nothing left in the tank to give. That’s why I think I’ve reacted so strongly to hearing it this morning, especially coming from a woman as bold and brilliant as Ardern.
