6 years is generally what you’d serve of an 8 year sentence, the rest is on license, they can actually serve as little as 3 yrs custody and 5 years license, depends on minimum term custody handed by judge.

It technically is whole life, usually with minimum serve of 20+ years, but rest of the term is served on license. Not a huge amount of murderers actually get released.I don't get that I thought if you are convicted of murder you serve the whole sentence

I left the prison service after several attacks during periods of working long ass hours, with a staff shortage due to sickness, injury etc. I worked initially with YOI, then in a Cat B & Cat A. I loved my job, but man it was soul destroying. That’s when I retrained and went into training & HR.
