Hello new people. You've probably seen a number of my Tweets about how I'm facing Jack Monroe, aka @BootstrapCook in court soon. Here's the full story:
I subscribed to her Patreon. She failed to fulfil the contract and didn't send out any rewards. I asked for my money back. She ignored and blocked me. For a £10 refund!
I took her to small claims court and won. She didn't bother responding to the claim papers, and had no defence—so I won by default. The amount she owed me is now £45: £10 plus the £35 court filing fee.
I was awarded a CCJ for the amount. She still ignored it. She regularly claims to be so poor that she's boiling down soap to make shampoo, unscrewing lightbulbs to save money, and only has 85p in her bank account, or something like that.
I asked the court for an order to summon her to answer questions about her finances, to work out how best to get my £45 back. This is an N39, and I paid £59 for the order plus £150 for a professional to serve it on her (i.e. for them go to her house and personally give her the order). This raised the amount owed to £104.
She was served the order, and must now attend court on Wednesday 14th June or risk being imprisoned for contempt of court.
At the hearing, I intend to get to the bottom of her finances—she must produce records of her PayPal and Patreon accounts for the last 2 years, confirm her income/expenditure, etc. so I can determine whether she CAN afford to pay me and merely CHOOSES not to, or whether she really is as poor as she claims and can't afford to pay anything.
This is all perfectly legal and legitimate—it's covered in Civil Procedure Rule 71.2 as an option open to judgment creditors (people who have a CCJ and are owed money).
You may have seen figures of £400+ being bandied about. These are my additional costs that are not yet included on the CCJ because I need to ask a judge to award me a costs order, basically saying "Yes, Jack Monroe owes his costs".
I expect she will pay in full at the end of the hearing to settle the matter. That's fine–on this matter, I just want my money back.
You may find this claim somewhat fantastical or improbable. It is all backed up by evidence and, if necessary, I will release suitably redacted copies of the paperwork once the matter is fully settled.
Further litigation from me regarding her various scams can be expected in the future. This isn't the end of pursuing justice.
