Vladimir Putin held a meeting of the Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sport. Highlights:

🔹 The number of Russians regularly participating in sports has grown from 40% to 53%, reaching nearly 70 million people, in the last four years. Our new goal is to make sports a part of the lifestyle of 70% of citizens by 2030.

🔹To achieve this, we need to ensure intensive development of sport infrastructure in all regions and a significant expansion in the domestic manufacturing of sports goods and equipment.

🔹The number of sports facilities in Russia is on the rise, exceeding 353,000 as of today.

🔹 We need to expand the use of public spaces and city parks for sports activities, and amend urban design standards to include a requirement for local governments and developers to build easy-to-reach sports facilities.

🔹 In 2022, government spending at all levels to support and promote sports rose 23%, to 537 billion rubles, with additional private investments.

"The more widespread and democratic sport is in Russia, the better and more interesting it will be for everyone, because what is happening in today's international sports organisations indicates degeneration. Sport has become increasingly commercialised, meaning it is influenced by business and government interests at various levels, by political entities in various countries. This is a sign of degeneration. Sports and sports movements were created to unite people, not to mingle in some political turmoil," the Russian President underscored.
