I don't know if there is evidence of a link anywhere (I'll have to go google) but I know from stories I've been told / heard / read it was common for Drs to prescribe them in the 60s/70s, without knowing the full term side effects , I think it's why Drs have to be so careful with prescribing now.

From experience taking enough codeine can give you the seem feeling or bit you get from a diazpam. And they can be bought from a chemist

You can only buy them with 500mg of paracetamol in. The codeine to buy OTT is only 8mg. To get a buzz off that you’re risking a quite probable paracetamol OD. If she’s doing that along with alcohol, that’s scary af

My old dear was around in the times of giving them out like smarties , somebody that was part of her WI has dementia and they think it's linked to 30 odd years of diazepam usage

My memory has never been the same and its only been recently that diazapam has been linked to memory loss and dementia. If I could prevent ANYONE from taking them then I would. I've had friends who are afraid of flying and their GP had prescribed them for previous flights, They've begged me to help them by giving them 1 or 2 and I've refused. - I would do anything for my mates but I'd never live with myself if they became dependent on them or ended up with memory problems- along with many other longterm issues.

but i've been on them a while, and other feel-good medication. and adhd meth. now i'm having practical thoughts and I dislike it highly.

Kpak 30mg were my old friends. My liver was not badly damaged, not everyone gets that lucky. I was addicted for about 3 years. I was put on a tablet called naltrexone which really helped me to stop the cravings

Things have changed a lot now though , someone just mentioned that it's likely specialists using them for long term rather than a GP just giving you them on repeat like they did years ago

Gabapentin is also a bad one. It has a risk of dementia. I suffer terrible brain fog and I think gabapentin is the reason. I do worry about the dementia risk, I have a terrible memory now. But have no other alternative other than severe symptoms. They don't warn you before they prescribe these potentially life altering drugs!!!

I tried getting off it and they gave me zolpidem. I woke up naked covered in sigils with my laptop melted from a pillar candle on the keyboard. The laptop was on my chest, I'd dreamt my cat was missing (i didn't have a cat) and I was doing a spell to bring it back, but it wasn't a dream. I was putting myself at the stake for a cat that didn't exist

A woman of Sheila's age has probably been prescribed them for years. I agree Angie will lie about anything, she's probably been given a 3 day course and now claims she's prescribed them long term.
