R to @crowbloke: They try to make it hideous enough for me here that I’ll give it up entirely. But they underestimate how defiant I am, and how much I love all of you.
I wish there was an option on online grocery shopping and delivery apps to filter out the alcohol. I work a solid 12 step program but it’s incredibly tedious to have to scroll through hundreds of booze options being waved in your face when you just want some carrots and dog food.
R to @BootstrapCook: There are many reasons why people don’t drink alcohol, medical to social to religious to being in recovery, but it nearly killed me several times. It’s kind of like escaping an attempted murderer and the whole damn village erecting shrines to them everywhere you look. Tiresome.
And I wish they’d highlight booze in the ingredients lists of food products in bold like they do with other common allergens. Took me and SB almost 20 minutes and a migraine to find alcohol free mince pies to take to last nights meeting. It doesn’t have to be this hard, folks.
R to @BootstrapCook: We didn’t actually find a single alcohol free mince pie on the shelves in the end - in an entire aisle of mince pies! - but we did find these and they went down a TREAT. Kind of a cross between a Bakewell tart and a mince pie. 11/10 would recommend!!
R to @michaelocyoung: We had a great laugh last night trying to work out how to pronounce them, and I’m pleased to say there’s a small corner of South East Essex who now refer to these as Eck-And-do-Em Tarts
R to @DaveWishingsky: I’ll add them to the list, thankyou. Next year I’m going to get out early and do some solid research, make a list to make it easier for folks to navigate.
R to @Suziey33: They were absolutely delicious, and quite unusually for me, I didn’t want a second one because they’re so rich and satisfying! (I can eat an entire box of mince pies in one sitting like a naughty unsupervised Labrador…)
R to @JonStone101: It comes up in the ‘suggested for you’ sidebars/top of the page/mid page adverts etc etc. I use online grocery sites for work every single day, I’m extremely familiar with all the workarounds; and they don’t work.
R to @rohbo1: This time of year is a nightmare. Towers of spirits in the entrance, every aisle end, lingering at the checkouts, I have a very carefully plotted route around each local shop to actively avoid the booze but it literally follows you around from September to Jan
R to @bluey_1984: That’s not the same product, at all. That’s the ingredients list for the mini frangipane mince pies. These were the ecclefechan tarts, which I have posted the ingredients for above. There’s also a mixed box, which I deliberately didn’t get, as it contained the frangipane pies.
R to @BootstrapCook: I have 8 boxes of them in the kitchen, but I’m in bed and really can’t be bothered to go and photograph the back of one of them, but this kind of false ‘gotcha’ nonsense is so incredibly tedious. 32 people separately checked that box last night. There’s no bloody booze in it.
